Key cutting in Osdorp is the on-site duplication of house and building keys around Osdorpplein, Tussen Meer, Wildeman and the Zuidwestkwadrant, cut and tested at your own door.
Everybody means to have a spare key. Most people get around to it on the day they lose the only one they had, which is the most expensive possible moment. Cutting a spare while you still have the original costs a fraction of an emergency call-out.
Which keys can be copied on the spot
Standard flat keys, the kind most Osdorp flats still use, are cut in a couple of minutes. Dimple keys, with the round indentations on the flat of the blade, take longer but are done on site as well. Security keys with a certification stamp can only be copied by the holder of the security card that came with the cylinder, which is exactly the protection you paid for.
If you no longer have that card, we can usually still help by replacing the cylinder with a new certified set, which comes with a fresh card in your name.
Why we cut from the original
A key cut from a copy inherits every bit of wear in that copy, and the next generation is worse. Two or three copies down the line you have a key that only works if you jiggle it, and eventually one that snaps. Bringing out the original, even if it lives in a drawer, gives a clean cut every time.
We also test the new key in your lock before leaving. A key that turns on the bench and sticks in the door is not finished work. Key cutting sits alongside everything else on our locksmith services page.
Losing every key is a different job and it is worth knowing what happens. With the cylinder still in the door, we can often decode it and cut a working key without replacing anything. Where the cylinder is certified, or where the keys went missing with something showing your address, replacement is the honest recommendation rather than a new key, because a key you cannot account for is still out there. Both routes are done in a single visit.
How many spares is sensible
Enough for everyone who lives there plus one kept away from the house, at a family member or a neighbour you trust. Not one hidden in the garden, under a plant pot or on top of the meter cupboard. Those places are checked first, and a key found there is worth more to a stranger than to you.
Keys that have quietly stopped fitting
Before you copy a key, look at it. A blade with rounded tips and a shiny worn edge has already lost part of its profile, and every copy taken from it will be slightly further from the original. If you have several keys for the same door, cut from the one that is used least, usually the spare in the drawer. Where every key is worn, decoding the cylinder gives a clean cut from the original specification instead of from a tired piece of brass.
Frequently asked questions
More answers are on our locksmith FAQ page.
Can you copy my key at my front door?
Yes. We cut on site and test in your lock before we leave.
My key says do not duplicate. What now?
That usually means a certified cylinder. With the security card we can order keys; without it, replacing the cylinder is the way forward.
Can you cut a key if I have lost all of them?
Often yes, by decoding the lock. Otherwise the cylinder is replaced.
Do you cut keys for the shared street door?
Yes, if the building allows it and the key is not certified.
How fast can you reach Osdorp?
Usually within 30 minutes, day or night.
